mmm...mmmm by Jessica Peterson

Tonight I met up with some friends in a bookstore and I couldn't peel myself away form the stationary section, oh how I love stationary, novelty art books and little notebooks that scream for me to write and draw all over them. I could have spent hours there pining over every design and debating if I really wanted this or that and if it is worth burning another hole in my already empty pockets for. But my heart fell on this Sukie Animals on Parade stationary set which consists of over-sized vintage style envelopes and animal shaped cards. I had to purchase it, after all I believe in loving and serving others and this will aid in that process of letting them know that...?... Right? Well, this is what I am telling myself to justify buying something I don't really need at the moment.

Anyway, these are them.

Lazy summer afternoon.

Oliver watching tv while sitting inside the laundry basket.

I just told my brother that he was lucky I am around so much so I could document his kids... he says to me, "whatever, I could do that myself, all I need to do is point and click then brighten them in photoshop."

I am now boycotting taking photos of the kids until he can prove to me he can take photos as good as mine or apologizes to me for making such a lame comment...

Therefore these are the last of the Oliver/Abby images we will be seeing for a while.

Road Trip at the Speed of Shark by Jessica Peterson

(lame post title I know...)

This past weekend I took a little road trip with some friends who play in a band called Shark Speed. We stopped in Vegas Friday night where they played at First Friday along with Neon Trees from Provo as well. I really enjoyed the crowd which consisted of mostly girls who purposefully forgot their pants for the sake of todays fashion. After this night I my loathing for vegas turned into a slight like.

The gypsy den attracts gypsy dancers I suppose

Saturday morning we continued on to LA.
In a van with no AC, good people and great music.
I'm happy.

Saturday evening they played at the Mint in West LA. It was a really great show... Yay boys.
P.S. you blew Chris Angel outta the water, although I think you should take a fashion clue from him, gems on jeans are pretty hot these days.

and me by Jessica Peterson

Fashion has never been of much importance

Growing up with three older brothers... I wanted to be tweety bird and Jimmy makes me into a Zombie Tweety bird without my knowledge... I still love you jimmy.

And I cursed myself at a very young age... if I only knew. ( i am even funny as a 4 year old)

I had to share this. Check out my belly, it's really sad but not much has changed with me. I still like to eat like there is no tomorrow.

Camping Magic by Jessica Peterson

Last weekend T flew into town. Tracy, mom, T and I took a quick trip to Moab for some camping fun. While all the camps surrounding us were beerin' it up we had fun in our own way.

Tracy and his faces

Me and me and me and me and me and me and me

Tracy's brilliance produced these two gems, I am so proud to call him my friend.

Ummm.... Maybe I am bias but I must have the cutest nephew and niece.

The best hair on the planet

This one kills me it's so beautiful.

Oliver makes a fire and is sad that it wont light up... maybe next time ?

Oliver's treasures

Abby gives Hill her flower

These are rad... They wanted in so bad. Once again I can't help but think of my brother T and me as kids when I am around these two.

Tonight Oliver snuggled up to me before he went to bed and he said,  "Jess, why are you leaving tomorrow?"  I told him that I had to go back home to take of things, then he said, " but Jessica I love you so much."

Oh how I will miss them.

Dear Lord, Please send me a jet so I can be everywhere at once.

Art is cool, Charlotte is too by Jessica Peterson

Yesterday I worked with a super talented designer in San Diego who recently designed some kick-A furniture. Unfortunately I can't post what we shot for a while but I will just say it is awesome and I want her designs. Above is a little detail I shot that doesn't show the furniture...

Below are some portraits of the designer of Moditure, Charlotte. We snapped these after the shoot at the beach. She is truly beautiful, talented and amazing.

Charlotte and her partner. I thought the little blondie poking his head out was funny.

Coming to an end.... by Jessica Peterson

I have been in Southern California for the past week or two (not sure anymore). It has been so wonderful, I thought I was over this place but I have fallen in love again. I guess I will just have to get some more work out here...
I drive home with some dudes on Thursday, it will be nice to see my dog again, I hope he doesn't hate me for ditching him.

oh well.

peace.

My little thoughts make little splashes in my head by Jessica Peterson

The best part of being self-employed is the freedom to just go...
It's a freedom that can be dangerous if one is not in the right state of mind.  It can be hard to be self-motivated, to spend the days in solitude, to worry if and how the bills will be payed, to fight slothfulness and discouragement.    I am still trying to find my balance.

I am 700 miles away from home and I am still at the "office".

Well...

I have been at the brothers for a few days now, I have to say the highlights have been with the kids, I understand sacrifice because of them, I understand why mothers give up careers because of them.  For the past while now I have been very cynical about marriage and children, I have viewed my friends as crazy and naive for have children etc... But my little bubble of self-centeredness has been softened because of them.  I have been sleeping on the top bunk in the kids room, I fall asleep to the noises of Oliver quietly sleep-talking to himself about chicken nuggets, nintendo and names of those he knows and the random suction from Abby's binki between snores.  I wake up to them calling my name over and over for me to wake up, and then the  banter between the two of them starts, Abby will boss Oliver around and Oliver will make  taunt Abby while she still behind crib bars.  Yesterday I was driving with Oliver and he randomly says, "Jessica, you are my friend".  That made my week.  Sometimes we have wars about who can say "I love you more", I let him win.  I love them because they are so pure and honest.

Tuesday was today by Jessica Peterson

Miss Kelly and I went to the Griffith Observatory this afternoon.  I was shocked and disappointed in myself for not exploring the park a million times while I lived in LA.  I thought for a long time about how silly I am for always trapping myself in bubbles.  I guess I figure when I am living somewhere that there will always be tomorrow to see what there is to see.  I love Kelly for promoting adventures.  She is always up for exploring, museum slumming, shows, walks and most importantly seeking out the best food around with me.  Thanks Kelly.

I have grown fond of photographing peoples homes lately.  This is Kelly and Marc's place in Atwater Village.  Blue kitchen with pink tile countertops and a drying rack.

The wall of photos and the green couches we all know so well.

I like finding the little charming bits of people and their spaces.

WAR PAINT by Jessica Peterson

Thank goodness for washable markers!
I couldn't help but laugh when I saw this.

Such pretty, pretty nail polish Abby

I loved this, I was eating a sandwich in the kitchen and I looked over and the three of them had their eyes glued to the tv.  Grandma Susan is the best.
