lost in the woods by Jessica Peterson

saturday night KJO and I drove an hour into the mountains to go to a cabin where a giant collection of hipsters gather each winter to play and enjoy music.  After the long drive we had to park the car and walk into the dark snowy woods with nothing but really bad directions to the cabin.  We walked in a few circles, found many wrong cabins, walked in a few more circles, fell in some giant snowy holes, slid a few times on our bums, walked up and down then up once more to only go back down again... this whole process was repeated twice in the dark until a stranger in a snowcat was kind enough to take us to the correct cabin (I was a little nervous because scenes from the movie The Shining went through my head) but we arrived just in time to watch my lovely and talented friend perform and it was worth it.

Emily is coming for a visit by Jessica Peterson

I am excited for her to come... I met Em this summer in my program at SVA, we just happened to go to Art Center except with a 4 year gap between.
She is coming to Utah for the second time in her life to visit me and meet some of her long lost mormon relatives.
Em, I am excited for our soon to be photo adventures.

WORKSHOP MARCH 10th by Jessica Peterson

WANNA KNOW MORE ABOUT HOW TO USE YOUR CAMERA OR SPEND SOME TIME PICKING THE BRAINS OF TWO GREAT PHOTOGRAPHERS?

The workshop is going to be a blast. Christine Olson (an amazing wedding and portrait photographer who graduated from Brooks Institute) is my counterpart and together we make a dynamic duo. Very different backgrounds (photographically speaking) so you'll get the benefit of two professional perspectives.

The workshop will take place in my downtown SLC studio, two blocks from Gateway. The studio is called The Charcoal Loft (website coming soon) but the address is:

435 West 400 South
SLC, UT 84101

Here's why you and your friends should come:
- You'll get to meet two working professional photographers and talk to us in a casual, comfortable environment.  We will be discussing Camera Basics as well as posing, lighting, composition, and how to solve the issues you may be having in your photography.
- You can email us questions and we will answer them either in class or personally with you after the class. Christine and I are happy to share what we know with you!
- Everyone gets to take home a booklet with all the information we covered (and more!) so you can keep it and use it any time you have questions.
- You'll be able to photograph a live model and learn about how to use/find natural light and solve tricky light situations
- We'll take a walk with our cameras and teach you how to see things as you're walking around ... things you otherwise may have overlooked. Great to learn for your own outings with children or pets or friends!
- What else are you going to be doing on a Saturday in March?
- Aaaaand ... lunch is provided. Enough said!

Come! Email me at jessica@jessicapetersonphoto.com or charcoalloft@gmail.com for more information and to reserve a spot! I look forward to seeing you there!

Have I mentioned that I love my career?
'cause I do, it can be a bit cheesy sometimes but I get paid to draw and photograph and stay up late
at night writing fun ideas down to shoot the next day...

I know I have been shooting the green couch like mad... I can't help it.

Organizing Jars by Jessica Peterson

Because of the great lack of drawer space in the studio I decided to use shelves with labeled jars as storage containers.  I know most of these are cheesy but I figured I will be more likely to put things back in there place if I enjoy going back to it.
I couldn't think of anything for the jar of chalk, if you have any ideas I would appreciate it!
